LET’S GET WILD – Wild Kratts LIVE Show – Pre Sale on NOW!

If you we’re a big Wild Kratt’s fan when you were younger, your dreams of meeting Chris and Martin may just come true this fall! This October, the Kratt brothers will be coming to us live at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and the pre-sale is on now, so act like a Kratt and RUN don’t walk!

We are a family of four with 2 young girls, Ezra age 3 and Isla age 8months. Growing up, my husband and I both watched Wild Kratt’s and loved it! Since we discovered the new episodes of Wild Kratts on Netflix, we knew that we had to show them to Ezra right away! Her being a child of adventure, excitement and energy, this show was a match made in heaven! Their new revised episodes of the Wild Kratt’s includes a characterized version of the brothers on their adventures, with short appearances at the beginning and end of the show. Adventure, excitement, animation, animals and multiple episodes to watch.

Ezra is HOOKED.

Hook, line, and sinker.

Now, I’m not going to lie here, when we found out that they were coming to our area and that we(my husband) would have a chance to meet Chris and Martin in person, he got a little bit star-struck. You know, the type of star struck where you know you’re going to see them, but can’t quite contain your excitement, except it shows because your body tenses up because you’re trying to not jump up and down, but also remain calm but forget to blink. Yeah, that’s how excited he is.

If you’re planning on attending, let me know and come say Hello!

Take care, and stay WILD.

Cassandra

Wrap me up, Buttercup Baby – Beluga Baby Swaddle + Doll Carrier Review

Since day one with Ezra, we have faithfully used our Beluga Wraps on repeat. Now with our second baby, Miss Isla Jane, I am using these wraps even MORE, having a toddler and a new born is no joke and also ‘no hands’ if you don’t have a Beluga Wrap!

Recently Beluga Baby launched two brand new products; the first being their Oversized Bamboo Swaddles. These things are HUGE. 35 x 35 inches and pure, buttery soft, bamboo goodness. They are the perfect companion, wether it be wrapped around them, cozy in the stroller or the comfort piece your child that cant leave their side while walking around the house. This swaddle is what babies and toddlers dream of.

When we first put Isla in a swaddle I didn’t think it was going to work, as she is a babe who likes to be free and kick around. You know, feel-the-wind-between-her-toes kind of girl. We wrapped her up, criss crossed and zig zagged this little bean and she was as happy as a clam, laid there completely content, smiling away.

One of my favourite ways to use the swaddle, other than swaddling, is to layer with Isla’s favourite fuzzy blanket. She has this white fluffy little thing that she cannot sleep without, but when we are out and she has it in the carseat, it is really easy for her to kick it off. Beluga Baby to the rescue! Because of the amazing four way stretch this bamboo fabric blend has, it easily curves and tucks in to wherever you need and stays put!

We are never without a blanket because the swaddles, much like the classic Baby Carriers are SO compact! They are made of the thin, but durable Bamboo Cotton Blend and can appear large, but fold up SO small that you could fit one in your jacket pocket – perfect for those cooler days!

When Ezra grew out of the Baby Carriers, I was sad and little bit heart broken that the Beluga era had ended, but then, BAM, doll carriers!

The second item that they launched was their amazing Doll Carriers, these came out just in time for baby #2 and for Ezra to start practicing to be a big sister! Ezra’s eyes LIT UP when she saw that she could wear her most cherished dollies around the house and out while grocery shopping. She was ecstatic to have her very own carrier to keep her BunBun close and still be able to carry a bag of fishies while sipping her apple juice. She had no idea what she was in for once her baby sister came along.

Since then, Ezra asks to wear her BunBun to the coffee shop, grocery shopping and even so that she can bring her stuffie’s downstairs but still be able to hold on to the railing. (So cute right?!) Now, when I have to grab a gift for a tiny human, I find myself reaching for one of these three, Practical, Stylish, and Playful. We love our Belugas and are honoured to be part of the pod 😉

Time flies when you’re having… a baby!

They say time flies when you’re having fun, and that is very true, but what about when time is flying by because your sleep deprived and have no idea what time it is. Welcome to the last three weeks of our lives haha! Since welcoming in little Isla into our lives two weeks early, our world has been turned upside down and flipped over sideways. We had to press pause on so many little projects and tasks on our to-do list to make way for baby and all the joy and lack of sleep she was going to bring us!

We have been working hard on getting her nursery and Ezra’s toddler room finished, luckily we had both the rooms painted and their closets built ahead of time and only needed to add the furniture and decorating left to do. My husband has had the entire summer off because he works in the school district, but we were dreading Isla’s due date as it was August 31st and he would be back to work within days of her being born. Thankfully, she had other plans and gave us two weeks of bliss with daddy being home to welcome her into the world and helping in trying to maintain some sort of normal as we transitioned into a 4-person family.

Having him around has given us extra time to bond as a family, capture special moments and really dedicate all our time to the newborn phase. We haven’t been the best at being on time or keeping track of what time it is for that matter, but have been trying our best! Receiving a beautiful handcrafted wooden watch from JORD was the icing on top of the cake after having Isla. The perfect accessory that not only looks beautiful, but helps me to keep on track of our routines and nap times!

For my own customized wooden watch, I chose from the Cassia Collection in Ebony and Sable. “The Cassia a timepiece that transcends the simple categorization of a watch. Intelligent design pairs with classic styling to create a piece worthy of your wrist and welcome in your jewelry wardrobe. The full Roman numeral concave dial in the JORD collection is beautifully reflected in our domed sapphire glass. The metal and wood link interlaced band integrates seamlessly into the rounded case. The Cassia Ebony & Sable is the statement piece you’ve been waiting for.” When the watch is delivered to you, it is sealed in a beautiful wooden box that just overwhelms you with the scent. It is so beautiful and the perfect keepsake or safe place for special memorabilia, you can even have your watch engraved if it is for a special occasion or for someone special!

Cadenshae: Maternity + Nursing Activewear for Everyday Mothers

If you are pregnant or a nursing mom you will want to read this post.

When I was pregnant with my first, I didn’t really know much, nor the benefits of having proper and fitted maternity clothing. I spent most of the pregnancy in my regular clothes and only really purchased a couple pairs of pants near the end. Thankfully, I carry smaller in the tummy and used the elastic trick to get the most out of my non-maternity clothing. (Keep reading, I’ll share that secret later!)

IMG_6182

This time around with my second child I decided to really invest and search out which companies offered not only comfortable activewear, as this was a summer pregnancy, but clothing I could also carry on to the fourth trimester for nursing and healing. Activewear for nursing moms is surprisingly really hard to find and anything I did find at big name brand shops weren’t really anywhere close to accessible or comfortable. I came across Cadenshae and was so excited to have found them! Not only did they offer exactly what I was looking for, but the fact that this was a complete line of maternity wear that was so discrete, was amazing! When I tell friends that I am wearing a nursing hoodie, most have been in disbelief until I show them the invisible zippers!

Cadenshae is a company that makes activewear for nursing moms, they are based out of New Zealand and was started by Nikki Croft, a mother of 2 and personal trainer. She searched and searched, much like I did, for clothing that fit her body and her active lifestyle. She couldn’t find anything, so she decided to start her own clothing line, and I am so thankful she did! Read more about the company and their journey as a family here.

Activewear Hoodie

I have been LIVING in my Activewear Hoodie paired with the Classic Full Length Leggings and am so excited to move into the fall and be able to take my two girls on walks to the park and coffee runs! The zips at the top of the hoodie for nursing are hidden within the seam of how the clothing is made itself and is placed perfectly for on the go feeds. There is no need to fuss with extra layers while trying to stay warm on those cooler days!

Classic Full Length Leggings

The Classic Full Length Leggings that I decided to try out had a full panel for coverage and support while pregnant, but by folding down the panel in half, it also offered extra support as a belly band while in the fourth trimester. This is the same road I went with my first pregnancy of not really paying attention to the Fourth Trimester and how I can best support my body in it’s healing process. The comfort and core strength that this belly band offers is unreal and I am SO happy to have it after this second pregnancy. (Having a toddler around as well as a new born has definitely had it’s challenges with self-care and resting). Having the full length option for these leggings was a must for me as I am usually more on the cooler side and knew this was the perfect pair for me!

This is a company that I am proud to support and tell you all about, it is an amazing brand run by an amazing and real family. My own experience with Cadenshae and Nikki, co-founder of Cadenshae, herself was great. When I was ordering my items I was unsure of sizing and she went out of her way to answer any questions or concerns I had to make sure I was doing it right. For a busy, family owned company, I feel like that’s pretty rare. Especially for just having her own newborn a couple months ago! I am so pleased with the hoodie and leggings and the investment I made with the two items. They are right on par with the current style of activewear, make me feel more energetic and have more mobility and take away stress from nursing in public with how easy and accessible it is in their clothing.

If you are a pregnant or a nursing mama, my hope for you is that you find the same fit and comfort for yourself. There really is such a difference with being comfortable and confident in such a precious and sensitive time in life. The journey of pregnancy and postpartum can be a tough one but I am so thankful I have Cadenshae to make just a little bit sweeter!

PS – Elastic Trick, take a regular hair elastic loop it through the button hole of your pants and thread it through the other side, fastening it to the button. This will give you about an extra month in your favourite non-maternity pants!

The Revamped IKEA Play Kitchen – An affordable way to create your dream kitchen…just miniature size.

Whether it be at another friends house, Sunday School or at IKEA itself, every time Ezra sees a little kitchen she is mesmerized and hooked. There’s no prying her away without a fight. For her second birthday this year, she was gifted the IKEA Duktig Play Kitchen from her grandma and papa. My husband and I had seen ways to DIY this teeny little kitchen all over Pinterest and are always looking for what our next project will be around the house, so naturally we got to work! We left it in the packaging for a few days until we could decide which style we wanted to go with and how we would go about it. We collected a few extra items to complete the project and got started Friday night and by Saturday evening, she had her own little dream kitchen that she woke up to Sunday morning!

The whole process wasn’t as tricky or time consuming as I thought it would be, there are TONS of different ways to personalize your own little kitchen; wall paper, accessories, handles, paint colour, etc. Below is a photo of the before and after of the kitchen and a step by step (with links) of how you can achieve the same look, or even tweak a few steps to customize it to your child’s likes!

Tools

  • Hammer
  • Finishing Nails x 8
  • Large Level (2ft approx. for easier tracing but can also use ruler)
  • Pencil
  • Painters Tape
  • Sharpie (fine tip)
  • Scissors / Exacto knife

Additional Materials

Step by Step

1.Spray Painting

PREP : Make sure you FILL all the holes on all the kitchen pieces and hardware with painters tape before spraying. (We found this out the hard way with a past project and have never made the mistake again!)

We hung the little kitchen hooks on a tight string to spray paint them. Most of the gold only needed one coat, whereas the cabinets and backing needed 2 coats.

2.Measuring + Tracing Kitchen Tile

I started planning out the tiles by spacing the lines on the side with a ruler and little mark and then later drew the longer lines across. The size I used for the tiles was 2×4 inches and I did 7 rows. Luckily we have a larger level and I was able to just use that to level and trace each line for the backsplash. I did however add an extra row of tiles and extended the line about an inch or two to ensure that it covered the entire space, just in case you need to adjust the position of the backing.

3.Apply Self-Adhesive Laminate to Countertop

I would suggest having someone help with this step, the adhesive itself is somewhat readjustable incase you do place it in the wrong spot, but better safe than sorry! I measured out the countertop before applying, but made sure there was a substantial amount to curve over the sides. We then removed all of the backing, I placed the adhesive down on the far right corners and started to press down. As we went, I would also press out any air bubbles with my debit card. After all the adhesive was down and the bubbles were out, I then flipped the counter top over and cut two diagonal lines to fold in the left over pieces that were covering the hole for the sink and stove top. Lastly, the edges of the countertop itself, we did the same thing with cutting in diagonally to the corners of the adhesive that was hanging over and criss crossed the edges to get that curved look and folded the rest underneath the counter top. (This part required some extra finesse, but looked so nice when it was done!)

4.Follow IKEA directions to assemble all your hard work!

Some things we added to make it extra special for Ezra:

  • Command Hook on the side for an apron she received from a coworker for her birthday. It was handmade and Ezra was on cloud nine the moment she laid eyes on it, “MOMMY’s-work?! Ezra-me?!”
  • Felt Food Sandwich Set – Melissa and Doug, you can find this pretty much anywhere online or at a lot of local kids stores. A BONUS for this, is that it also comes with bacon and eggs, perfect for the stove top!

  • Vintage Tea Set we scooped up from a local thrift shop and ‘Tea Time’ bell from my grandpa’s bell collection!

  • Wooden Brew + Serve Coffee Set – Melissa and Doug– Ezra received this as a gift from her aunty and makes us coffee every morning while we make the real stuff!
  • Sushi Slicing Play Set – Melissa and Doug – Her eyes lit up when we opened this up. We always go out for sushi together and now she had her very own! The pieces also stick together and can cut it apart – so fun! What can I say, we love our M+D toys!
  • IKEA Pots + Pans / Baking Set / Cooking Utensils / Play Food

I always love creating, wether it be for myself, a loved one or something like a play kitchen! If you are planning on giving your play kitchen a little extra love, I would love to see what you do or did! Leave me a comment and a photo below or if you’ve got any extra questions about the process!

On May 29, 2017, that little stick showed 2 pink lines; two lines of joy, two lines of hope, but also two lines of fear. Anxiousness of the ‘what if’ and the unknown, only time would tell which path this pregnancy would take. Prayers of strength, trust and health surrounded them as those first months went by. On January 28th 2018 little Miss Evelynne Ruth Winanne Fenton was born, will bright blue eyes and a big loud cry!

This was a baby and MAMA that needed to be celebrated to the greatest extent! The strength that these parents possess has no end and I was so excited to have an afternoon to just love on them and celebrate the ultimate joy that Evelynne is. Thank you to all those who made this happen and come together so beautifully. Tofino Touring – BabyMoon for NumberTWO Pt.1

A little more than two years ago, Mackenzie and I packed our bags and camera and headed out on a road trip to Tofino, BC to stay in the Ocean Village Resort. This trip was to be our ‘last hurrah’ to our lives of just the two of us and to welcome the transition of bringing home baby in a few short months. (Here’s a few photos from our trip when I was pregnant with Ezra below!)

Tofino 2018 Highlights

  • Donuts at Rhino Coffeehouse
  • Tofino Soap Company
  • Local shopping at SALT Tofino
  • A toddler who can fly a kite better than you
  • Sleeping in beehive cabins
  • Efficient meal planning with Hello Fresh
  • Beachside BBQ
  • Tacos at Tacofino
  • Cheesy grins and wind swept hair

This year we are awaiting the arrival of our second babe, who is due at the end of August, and thought we take a trip down memory lane, pack our bags once more and head off to the BeeHive cabins of Tofino! We mentioned it to the rest of our family, since it was spring break, most would have vacation time, and low and behold, all 16 of us went! We booked up two and a half cabins and four cars, let the convoy begin!

While packing for the trip, we were discussing food, bringing a cooler, transporting leftovers and travelling to Victoria afterwards. We then came up with the most GENIUS plan I think we’ve ever thought up. We were going to bring our Hello Fresh box with us to Tofino! SO good. The box itself comes insulated and could last the trip there, no left overs (depending if Ez eats her whole meal) because it is made to portion, AND so much cheaper than bringing home all the awkward leftovers from grocery shopping that usually get tossed when you get home anyways! One thing I would recommend if you do decide to bring Hello Fresh along on your next trip would be to bring a couple tupperware containers for while you’re there and to call your accommodations to see what cooking utensils they have to make sure you’ll be able to cook what’s in the box!

When we arrived, our first plan of action (always, wherever we go) is to set up Ezra’s sleeping quarters. There is nothing worse when being away with your toddler, who is already out of sorts with the new room, than having to set up their bed when they’re cranky and half asleep. After that, we unpacked and started our first meal from Hello Fresh, put Ezra to bed and then headed over to the grandparents suite to have a games night! Another best part of staying at Ocean Village Resort was that the cabins are about 3 feet apart from each other, which is ideal for large family getaways. The monitor reaches perfectly!

Our second day there, we headed out to Rhino’s Coffee for some donuts, java, and a selfie with the great rhino itself. Of corse Ezra was all in the entire time and was on cloud nine when Wayne, the owner, came out from the counter and brought over an assortment of donuts for us to take back to the cabin and enjoy. Yummy! We then ventured out to stop in at a couple local shops we wanted to revisit and made sure to stop in one of the gems of Tofino, SALT Tofino. One of the goodies we walked away with was some of the beautiful soaps I just couldn’t keep my eyes off of – Tofino Soap Co. you make one heck of a bar of soap! If you are visiting and are looking for THEE place for one stop shop of all the local and handmade artisans, this is it. I even caught a glimpse of some companies that made their way over from Vancouver!

2PM rolled around and we were exhausted, time for a family nap time. Yup. Family nap time – it’s what vacations were made for! We then spent the afternoon down on the beach, which was 20 feet away from our doorstep, although, you could spot Ezra from a mile away with her ‘hazmat’ suite on. Then tucked away for the rest of the night, prepping our second Hello Fresh meal and then geared up for another games night, and we all know a games night in Tofino isn’t complete without pairing it with a few bottles from Tofino Brewing! Family games nights have always been my favourite, I remember when I was 10 or 11 and staying up with my mom and dad until 11pm some nights while we were camping at Golden Ears Park. The best.

Our last day in Tofino, we spent over at  PROVINCIAL PARK BEACH with the whole family. Building sandcastles, exploring tide pools and flying kites. OH the flying of kites. We discovered that Ezra is a pro kite-flyer and should go in to it as a career. I cannot express how funny and ‘in awe’ everyone was that Ezra was so focused on her kite (that was at least 70ft in the air) but would also run around on the beach, squatting in tide pools and digging in the sand. Amongst all of this she NEVER let the kite dip or out of her hand, and if you we’re going to ask her for it she would run as fast as her little feet and HAZMAT suite would let her. (PS – How ADORABLE is this toque from Wild Child Designs – we are obsessed with it and the only sad part about the sun coming out is that she’ll be done with it for this season.)

One special item on the itinerary while we were in Tofino, was family photos. My father-in-law had gone ahead and found an amazing photographer, Karley from Bracey Photography, to capture our entire family, big and small, on the beach. We are SO thankful both to him for scheduling such a precious time and for Karley for capturing everyone so beautifully that morning. (Click HERE to view the full collection – Link to come)

That evening we celebrated our family and the fun we had in Tofino with a good ol’ beachside BBQ with a few bottles of Tofino Brewing by our side. The resort has firepits set up along the beach for families to access during their stay. That evening as we sat there roasting marshmallows and hotdogs, there was a completely different feeling on the beach. A feeling of closeness, family, and just overflowing joy. Each firepit was full of different families, couples and children were walking and running along the tide, and then there it was, the perfect golden sunset.

The entire family stayed for three nights and after we all parted ways, just the three of us headed over to Victoria to enjoy a little more family time. Head over to – BabyMoon Numba TWO – Pt2 to read about the rest of our trip and more family photos!

Have any of your own family trip secrets? Leave a comment below for something new to try out on our next adventure!

2 Girls and Their Dolls – American Girl Review

Since Ezra was born, her and her cousin Maisie have been inseparable. At the beginning it was an un-dyeing love that Maisie had for this new little baby girl that was all hers. This love then it grew and grew as Ezra began to crawl, babble and say ‘MAIZEE’ with the biggest smile. Even though there is almost four years difference, they still find ways to play together, laugh and connect on the same crazy level!

We are very fortunate to live so close to Ezra’s cousins and that she is able to see them at the very minimum, once a week. In a sense she is growing up with her cousins more as siblings, the bond they all share is so strong. Ez will go through all of her cousins names, and her aunts and uncles at LEAST 5 times a day, wether we be in the car and she hopes were driving to their house, or just at home sitting on the couch.

Ez is so funny with her eldest cousin Maisie, she will see her and instantly start to vibrate, run up to her and give her the biggest hug while chanting MAISIE! MAISIE! MAISIE! Maisie will run over to Ez, swoop her up in her arms and twirl her. There is such a look of pure joy and love when they see each other, you can’t help but smile along with them.

When I first started working with American Girl, I was thrilled to be able to give Ezra one of their beautiful dolls. Not only did I just find out that I was pregnant and that this would be so fun to gift her a ‘practice’ sibling, but to watch her grow and change and show the same love and care that we pour in to her each day. I then started thinking of that same love that she exudes when Maisie is around and how fun it would be if they each had their own American Girl to play with on their playdates!

I knew that Maisie loved her dolls and barbies and that she would love her Camille Doll and the Garden Party Table and Chairs accessories. She loves fairy gardens and dresses, so this was the prefect fit for her! As for Ezra, I found the Bitty Baby that looked the most like her when she was born, very dark features, a head of hair and in her jammies! Along with Ez, we received the Bitty Better Kit, a doctor kit for her Baby, Ez is so compassionate and caring that this was such a good addition for her, and plus, it came in a ‘purse'(doctors kit), Ez’ favourite thing to carry around right now haha!

When the girls first opened their dolls, they were both shocked, and instantly in awe of these beautiful little girls, all dressed up and all theirs! They could barely keep it together while we unpackaged them for them. (Note to self: Prep and un-package all tags next time I am gifting an item to a toddler!). As they started to play with their new American Girls, I brought out the other items for them and it happened all over again! the OO’s the AHH’s and the ‘I Love It!’ was all over the place. It was a little bit of a rough start, as the girls both received brand new toys at the same time and wanted to play with each others gifts.

They worked it out in the end and played for a couple hours going back and forth and obviously ending the playdate with a dance party!

IMG_2174-2

Thank you so much again to American Girl Dolls for these gifts for my favourite girls! They will enjoy them for years to come and we are excited for Ezra to have her very own baby doll to take care of in a quick six months!

XOX,

One of my favourite things to do is talk about things I am passionate about. Activities I love, dreams I hold dear and products and shops I believe in and am proud to support. I’m sure I am not the only one who boasts about something when they try a new shampoo and their hair is the most radiant and full it’s ever been or find an oversized bib that has extendable straps to grow with them – UHM. HELLO! You gotta share the love and spread the word!

Here is a list of some of tried&true favourites and a couple new! I hope you find something you’ll enjoy as well, or spark ideas for a loved one!

XO – Cass
