Endy – Canadian Made Mattress 6 Month Review

Well, the verdict is in and we are in LOVE with our Endy, honestly and whole heartedly. For the past 6 months I have been receiving questions asking if what I have been sharing about our Endy experience really is as good as it sounds, and yes, yes it is!

IMG_4491IMG_4498IMG_4481

It has been 6 months now and we have been sleeping better than ever, waking up refreshed and recharged for whatever the day had in store for us. We received our Queen size Endy mattress, Queen size sheets and pillows in the Spring this year and the change has been incredible. I used to toss and turn throughout the night, uncomfortable, overheating and completely unsupported. We had your typical box spring mattress, complete with a foam topper and a sunken in dip where Mackenzie and I each slept. This is one of the areas that we have seen a huge improvement in our sleep, each night when we go to bed, the mattress has regained it’s shape and is ready to give us a seamless night’s sleep.

Throughout the past 6 months, my sleep and body have both been shifting, not only from sleeping on the Endy but also transitioning from having Isla. Our mattress has played a big part in supporting me as I shift throughout the night and change positions to find a new way to sleep. In addition, I have had to readjust my pillows to a firmer comfort for more support in my neck and I was so glad that I didn’t have to go out and purchase new ones to do this. The Endy Pillows have been so great and storing the extra pieces has been so simple! They are small pieces of foam, you can store them anywhere in your bedroom. Easy Peasy!

IMG_4469IMG_4471IMG_4473IMG_4459

[Endy Hack : Storage bag for excess Endy Pillow inserts can also be used as a small airplane pillow or toddler pillow.]

I still remember the first time we opened our Endy Mattress, Ezra was ecstatic, watching it unfold and form was magic before her eyes; before all of our eyes. After the mattress was ready to go, we dressed it up with a set of Endy’s silky soft sateen weave sheets and finished up with their customizable pillows! When we were going to bed that evening I remember taking out half of the inserts that were in my pillow and Mackenzie keeping every little piece in his, talk about opposites!

The morning after our first night on the Endy, I did notice that I had felt the mattress was a little bit firm for my liking, but we were also switching  from a 10 year old pillow top princess mattress so there wasn’t much to compare it to. I was a little nervous about this but I had read reviews and also heard from other friends who have an Endy and had heard that because the mattress is so supportive, medium firmness and also just something new that you’re sleeping on, it could take a couple days for you to get used to it. Well, it did! After about 2 nights, I was hooked. Excited to go to bed each night but also excited to wake up, knowing I would be refreshed and ready for the day because I had a restful, comfortable and soundless sleep! (unless one of the girls woke up…lol)

IMG_4447IMG_4438IMG_4417IMG_4452

I would definitely recommend this mattress to people, not only because of the comfort and great experience we’ve had with our Endy, but also because of the company. They have been so helpful along the way, figuring out if Endy was the right fit for our family, which mattress to go with and GUESS WHAT?! If you end up not being satisfied with your mattress, you have up to 100 days to not only return for a full refund but Endy will also com and pick up the mattress from your home! If that doesn’t give you the confidence to give the Endy a try, you’re missing out!

Icing on top: If you or someone you know is looking to catch some extra Z’s use code “STUMBLING50” for $50 off any size mattress! (code expires March 31 2020)

The Perfect Shirt From Winter to Spring and All Year Round.

Living on the West Coast you never really know what the weather is going to be like and when you do finally figure it out, it can change in a second! I am constantly looking out for clothing I can layer up when it’s chilly and shed when the day warms up. When I came across the Long Sleeve Peplum top from Pink Blush, it was love at first sight. Something that layered nicely, was comfortable, and best of all, nursing friendly!

On a regular day, I will usually throw on a pair of pants, long sleeve shirt and oversized sweater, so when I received this Peplum top from Pink Blush I was over the moon! It is a great piece that is casual enough to wear with jeans to run errands or I could instantly dress it up for a night on the town by adding a pair of heels!

This top is extremely lightweight, sits nicely on the body and has a adorable flirty twirl with the peplum bottom. Wether you are just looking for a new fun top or a nursing mother, this top is so versatile that it really covers a large range of stages, ages and body types! Wearing this top, there are a few ways you can style it up or dress it down, you can easily pair it with leather leggings and brown boots, jean shorts and a large brimmed hat, ripped jeans and a leather jacket, and even yoga pants and gum boots! (Check out the Tulip Field photos below, I told you so!)

If you we’re a big Wild Kratt’s fan when you were younger, your dreams of meeting Chris and Martin may just come true this fall! This October, the Kratt brothers will be coming to us live at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and the pre-sale is on now, so act like a Kratt and RUN don’t walk!

We are a family of four with 2 young girls, Ezra age 3 and Isla age 8months. Growing up, my husband and I both watched Wild Kratt’s and loved it! Since we discovered the new episodes of Wild Kratts on Netflix, we knew that we had to show them to Ezra right away! Her being a child of adventure, excitement and energy, this show was a match made in heaven! Their new revised episodes of the Wild Kratt’s includes a characterized version of the brothers on their adventures, with short appearances at the beginning and end of the show. Adventure, excitement, animation, animals and multiple episodes to watch.

Ezra is HOOKED.

Hook, line, and sinker.

Now, I’m not going to lie here, when we found out that they were coming to our area and that we(my husband) would have a chance to meet Chris and Martin in person, he got a little bit star-struck. You know, the type of star struck where you know you’re going to see them, but can’t quite contain your excitement, except it shows because your body tenses up because you’re trying to not jump up and down, but also remain calm but forget to blink. Yeah, that’s how excited he is.

If you’re planning on attending, let me know and come say Hello!

Take care, and stay WILD.

Cassandra

Cadenshae: Maternity + Nursing Activewear for Everyday Mothers

If you are pregnant or a nursing mom you will want to read this post.

When I was pregnant with my first, I didn’t really know much, nor the benefits of having proper and fitted maternity clothing. I spent most of the pregnancy in my regular clothes and only really purchased a couple pairs of pants near the end. Thankfully, I carry smaller in the tummy and used the elastic trick to get the most out of my non-maternity clothing. (Keep reading, I’ll share that secret later!)

IMG_6182

This time around with my second child I decided to really invest and search out which companies offered not only comfortable activewear, as this was a summer pregnancy, but clothing I could also carry on to the fourth trimester for nursing and healing. Activewear for nursing moms is surprisingly really hard to find and anything I did find at big name brand shops weren’t really anywhere close to accessible or comfortable. I came across Cadenshae and was so excited to have found them! Not only did they offer exactly what I was looking for, but the fact that this was a complete line of maternity wear that was so discrete, was amazing! When I tell friends that I am wearing a nursing hoodie, most have been in disbelief until I show them the invisible zippers!

Cadenshae is a company that makes activewear for nursing moms, they are based out of New Zealand and was started by Nikki Croft, a mother of 2 and personal trainer. She searched and searched, much like I did, for clothing that fit her body and her active lifestyle. She couldn’t find anything, so she decided to start her own clothing line, and I am so thankful she did! Read more about the company and their journey as a family here.

Cadenshae Nurshing Activewear Hoodies

Activewear Hoodie

I have been LIVING in my Activewear Hoodie paired with the Classic Full Length Leggings and am so excited to move into the fall and be able to take my two girls on walks to the park and coffee runs! The zips at the top of the hoodie for nursing are hidden within the seam of how the clothing is made itself and is placed perfectly for on the go feeds. There is no need to fuss with extra layers while trying to stay warm on those cooler days!

Classic Full Length Leggings

The Classic Full Length Leggings that I decided to try out had a full panel for coverage and support while pregnant, but by folding down the panel in half, it also offered extra support as a belly band while in the fourth trimester. This is the same road I went with my first pregnancy of not really paying attention to the Fourth Trimester and how I can best support my body in it’s healing process. The comfort and core strength that this belly band offers is unreal and I am SO happy to have it after this second pregnancy. (Having a toddler around as well as a new born has definitely had it’s challenges with self-care and resting). Having the full length option for these leggings was a must for me as I am usually more on the cooler side and knew this was the perfect pair for me!

This is a company that I am proud to support and tell you all about, it is an amazing brand run by an amazing and real family. My own experience with Cadenshae and Nikki, co-founder of Cadenshae, herself was great. When I was ordering my items I was unsure of sizing and she went out of her way to answer any questions or concerns I had to make sure I was doing it right. For a busy, family owned company, I feel like that’s pretty rare. Especially for just having her own newborn a couple months ago! I am so pleased with the hoodie and leggings and the investment I made with the two items. They are right on par with the current style of activewear, make me feel more energetic and have more mobility and take away stress from nursing in public with how easy and accessible it is in their clothing.

Cassandra-Colony farm-42

If you are a pregnant or a nursing mama, my hope for you is that you find the same fit and comfort for yourself. There really is such a difference with being comfortable and confident in such a precious and sensitive time in life. The journey of pregnancy and postpartum can be a tough one but I am so thankful I have Cadenshae to make just a little bit sweeter!

XOX – Cass

PS – Elastic Trick, take a regular hair elastic loop it through the button hole of your pants and thread it through the other side, fastening it to the button. This will give you about an extra month in your favourite non-maternity pants!

The Ultimate Summer Family Bucket List – 5 Local Attractions you don’t want to miss!

Well, it’s here! Mackenzie is off work for the summer and we are in the final stretch until baby #2 arrives. We have been spending a lot of time in the back yard and soaking up family time, but have also been exploring the city and lower mainland, making memories with just the three of us. Over the past few weeks, we have been following along through the Healthy Family Expo’s Summer Family Fun Guide and am sharing 5 awesome attractions to add to your summer bucket list over the next couple months. Enjoy!

BRITANNIA MINE MUSEUM

IMG_5887IMG_5899IMG_5907IMG_5949IMG_5933IMG_5979

1. Britannia Mine Museum

“MUMMY, BIG TUCK” Ezra exclaimed as we came around the corner of the entrance to Britannia Mine Museum – sure to be one of the highlights of the entire trip for her and her cousin. Rewind to when we arrived at the mines, unfortunately because of the long, winding road you take to get there, Ezra fell asleep. Right before we pulled into the parking lot. Great timing kid. We ended up splitting up and my husband took her cousin through the mines and on the awesome tour, including when he was the chosen one to make the whole mine dark by blowing out a candle. He was VERY excited about that! I waited in the car until Ezra woke and then we joined them for some gold panning, train rides and digging.

There was a museum portion that had a huge assortment of stones and gems, gold panning – so much fun, the big yellow truck, and obviously the tour through an actual mine! There was so much to see, the tour itself is about 45 minutes long and then if you really want to find some gold, you’ve got to put your back into it and dedicate some time there! Haha. I would probably recommend putting aside 2 hours of time at least (and that would be without stopping to eat lunch while there).

Britannia Mine Museum was something I don’t think I’ve ever thought of visiting before. Whenever we’ve passed the mine previously, we were always en route to somewhere and it’s usually wrapped up in a time crunch. But when I saw the Healthy Family Media Expo’s Metro Vancouver Family Summer Fun Guide, I knew we wanted to check out each of these 5 attractions.

CULTUS LAKE WATERSLIDES

IMG_5526IMG_2747IMG_2745IMG_5522IMG_5564

2. Cultus Lake Waterslides

When we ventured out to the next attraction in the Summer Family Fun Guide, Cultus Lake Waterslides, I knew right away that I had to bring a couple of my niece’s and nephews along for the ride! What better way to kick off their summer break than with some 60 foot waterslides! (Just kidding, we stuck to tubing, splash park and the kids zone).

I was very impressed with all the different age groups they had designated play spaces for. It really was a full family experience, with something for everyone, from baby to adult! The kids spent most of their time in the wading pool that had a few curvy slides that started from a giant turtle at the top and then ended with a large wide slide to plunk you in to the pool again! The turtle was a favourite of my nephew’s, for at least a good hour he would consistently bring myself and my sister-in-law over to watch him hug, smile and slide down the turtle!

After a full day of sweets, splashing and sunshine, the drive home was the perfect length to have the kids drift off after such a busy day.

MAPLEWOOD FARM

IMG_5668IMG_5715IMG_5746IMG_5706IMG_5770IMG_5794IMG_5643

3. Maplewood Farms

We are so blessed to have my husband working as an EA, this means winter break, spring break and best of all, summer break. As soon as his school year ended, we headed right out to Maplewood Farm in North Vancouver to enjoy some family time. We knew right away that this would be a huge hit for Ezra, as she LOVES animals anywhere we go, playing with her Little People figures at home and watching them on TV.

When we arrived at Maplewood Farms, Ezra could see from the parking lot that there were horses, and she started to shake uncontrollably with excitement in her car seat! When we took her out of the car she hit the ground running, barely being able to stand still to check in. It was so sweet to see her be fearless with each and every animal, fully experiencing what each felt like, sounded like and even on some occasions, smelt like (yuck! lol). She was down on their levels, making the sounds she had heard from books to talk to them and giving each a hug before saying goodbye.

After we saw all the barnyard animals, we took a small path at the back to walk alongside the most adorable little pond. There were little ducks everywhere, willow trees and benches, quite a storybook setting if you ask me! As we walked a little further, all of a sudden my husband called for us to hurry up, there was a mama and her 2 ducklings nestled in beneath a tree by the water. It was the sweetest little thing to watch Ezra inch forward, being so gentle and quiet to not scare them. (Unlike when we saw the peacocks, she was practically one of them and talking their squacks).

WEST COAST RAILWAY HERITAGE PARK

IMG_5435IMG_5486IMG_5319IMG_5293IMG_5333IMG_5373IMG_5448IMG_5462IMG_5476IMG_5505IMG_5400

4.West Coast Railway Heritage Park

I think this trip was by far Ezra’s favourite – although it’s probably hard to judge because she get’s so excited about everything, but this girl LOVES trains. She loves making the sounds, pointing out the sky train on a daily basis, and anytime there’s a train table, you know you can find her there. The West Coast Railway Heritage Park is such a family friendly environment and a great place to take toddlers. There was so much running space between the cars and tracks, the insides were huge and had tables, beds and kitchens which is always fun to explore for little ones.

Throughout the building, tracks and at the waiting stations for the train rides were a number of different train tables for kids. This was a great way to keep the smaller ones occupied while older children or parents explored AND there was an abundance of trains to go around. If you’re a parent and reading this, you know how crucial this is. Haha.

They also offer an awesome train ride for everyone in the family. It’s about 6 cars long and miniature, so you mostly just straddle it with your little one in front of you. It goes around the whole park and is about 20 minutes long. It was another highlight for Ezra because not only was it a fun ride, but placed along the tracks in the forest were little animals and gnomes.

CULTUS LAKE ADVENTURE PARK

IMG_6122IMG_6097IMG_6186IMG_6148IMG_6026IMG_3816IMG_5998IMG_6033

5. Cultus Lake Adventure Park

When we made our way out to Cultus Lake Adventure Park, we knew what we were in for, so we made plans. We would stop at Kindred Clothing along the way, Ezra would nap, we packed the camera, snacks, water bottles and picked up a flat of blueberries on the way home! Most of this happened, in this order, except for the fact that Ez only napped for half an hour in the car, if that.

Before we headed out to the park, we looked up all the height requirements, types of rides and what was available for the shorter crowd. To our surprise and excitement, we were very impressed that Ezra was able to go on about half of the rides! She is tall for two years old which you think would be both a blessing and a curse, that she would be tall enough, but too young and scared of the ‘bigger’ rides, NOPE! For example, when Kenz went on their drop zone ride, Ezra was right behind him in line up to get buckled in.. ayiyiyi.

When we arrived at the park, the entrance has the roller coaster flying by above and Ezra exclaimed, “MOMMY! THAT ONE!” … maybe in a couple years kid. We made our way around the park, through the kids play zone, across the board walk, and around the carousel at least 4 times, on the Zebra obviously. Every. Time. We spent about an hour and a half at the park and it was just perfect for us, we each went on a couple rides with her and she was just so excited the entire time. We will definitely be bringing back our fearless little girl!

Thank you to the Healthy Family Expo for inspiring our adventures with their Summer Family Fun 2018 Guide, and to Jessie Farrell for providing the soundtrack for our adventures! Jessie Farrell’s new album, Sparkle & Shine, is inspired by nature and perfect for a drive to an outdoor adventure.  You can preview & download this album on Apple Music or order the CD online, and also catch Jessie & The Gumboot Kids on CBC Kids! Ezra has been jumping and hoping along to this soundtrack since the day it came out, she is such a bag of beans and continues to gain more awesome dance moves everyday!

These past few weeks have been crazy, preparing for baby #2, getting the house ready and stepping into summer mode – remembering to drink lots of water and always having a hat and sunscreen ready! These special outings with the family are always hectic, but hey, that’s how the best memories are made right?!

If you have any of your own hidden gems that you have as a family tradition, wether it be berry picking, carnivals or your favourite splash park, drop me a line below, I would love to hear about it and have new adventures!

I’ll leave you guys with a short clip of Ezra watching Mackenzie go on their highest ride at the adventure park – make sure to turn up the volume, it’s a good one!

Take Care and have an awesome summer!

My Little Rainbow – Celebrating a little girl who was Wished For, Hoped For and Prayed For.

This past year was one of the hardest, trying and most broken years I have ever seen someone go through. Last year my sister-in-law went through something no one should ever have to go through, especially more than once. In 2016 Shannon+Derek went through three losses before they were awstruck with the news they’d be expecting their little rainbow on January 28th 2018.

My Little Rainbow Highlights

  • A Floral Matching Mommy + Me Set
  • Homemade Chocolate Covered Strawberries
  • Local and Handmade goodies from all over the Fraser Valley
  • Macrame + Floral backdrop
  • Unique Gift Ideas for a Rainbow Baby + Mama
  • Delicious Macarons from Kizzy’s Macarons

DSC_9224

On May 29, 2017, that little stick showed 2 pink lines; two lines of joy, two lines of hope, but also two lines of fear. Anxiousness of the ‘what if’ and the unknown, only time would tell which path this pregnancy would take. Prayers of strength, trust and health surrounded them as those first months went by. On January 28th 2018 little Miss Evelynne Ruth Winanne Fenton was born, will bright blue eyes and a big loud cry!

This was a baby and MAMA that needed to be celebrated to the greatest extent! The strength that these parents possess has no end and I was so excited to have an afternoon to just love on them and celebrate the ultimate joy that Evelynne is. Thank you to all those who made this happen and come together so beautifully. Please take a look below at the beautiful photos that Megan from Megan Faber Photography took for this special Rainbow Baby Shoot.

2 Girls and Their Dolls – American Girl Review

Since Ezra was born, her and her cousin Maisie have been inseparable. At the beginning it was an un-dyeing love that Maisie had for this new little baby girl that was all hers. This love then it grew and grew as Ezra began to crawl, babble and say ‘MAIZEE’ with the biggest smile. Even though there is almost four years difference, they still find ways to play together, laugh and connect on the same crazy level!

We are very fortunate to live so close to Ezra’s cousins and that she is able to see them at the very minimum, once a week. In a sense she is growing up with her cousins more as siblings, the bond they all share is so strong. Ez will go through all of her cousins names, and her aunts and uncles at LEAST 5 times a day, wether we be in the car and she hopes were driving to their house, or just at home sitting on the couch.

Ez is so funny with her eldest cousin Maisie, she will see her and instantly start to vibrate, run up to her and give her the biggest hug while chanting MAISIE! MAISIE! MAISIE! Maisie will run over to Ez, swoop her up in her arms and twirl her. There is such a look of pure joy and love when they see each other, you can’t help but smile along with them.

When I first started working with American Girl, I was thrilled to be able to give Ezra one of their beautiful dolls. Not only did I just find out that I was pregnant and that this would be so fun to gift her a ‘practice’ sibling, but to watch her grow and change and show the same love and care that we pour in to her each day. I then started thinking of that same love that she exudes when Maisie is around and how fun it would be if they each had their own American Girl to play with on their playdates!

I knew that Maisie loved her dolls and barbies and that she would love her Camille Doll and the Garden Party Table and Chairs accessories. She loves fairy gardens and dresses, so this was the prefect fit for her! As for Ezra, I found the Bitty Baby that looked the most like her when she was born, very dark features, a head of hair and in her jammies! Along with Ez, we received the Bitty Better Kit, a doctor kit for her Baby, Ez is so compassionate and caring that this was such a good addition for her, and plus, it came in a ‘purse'(doctors kit), Ez’ favourite thing to carry around right now haha!

When the girls first opened their dolls, they were both shocked, and instantly in awe of these beautiful little girls, all dressed up and all theirs! They could barely keep it together while we unpackaged them for them. (Note to self: Prep and un-package all tags next time I am gifting an item to a toddler!). As they started to play with their new American Girls, I brought out the other items for them and it happened all over again! the OO’s the AHH’s and the ‘I Love It!’ was all over the place. It was a little bit of a rough start, as the girls both received brand new toys at the same time and wanted to play with each others gifts.

They worked it out in the end and played for a couple hours going back and forth and obviously ending the playdate with a dance party!

IMG_2174-2

Thank you so much again to American Girl Dolls for these gifts for my favourite girls! They will enjoy them for years to come and we are excited for Ezra to have her very own baby doll to take care of in a quick six months!

6 Foot Gingerbread House (cardboard; not cookie)

One thing that I really do miss about my life before I had Ez, was working as a preschool teacher. Being able to create different play spaces for the children each month and theme related to what they would be learning about. Now that Ez is a little bit older and I am able to play with her more and more, running around the house, peek-a-boo and imaginary play!

How excited was I when the huge rollout for Starbucks’ Holiday merch came in and there was 2 GIANT boxes and endless others. I couldn’t help but take them home, already having the dream of one day making Ez a giant box fort. Then the holiday season rolled around, it completely embraced me and here we are!

Ezra’s Gingerbread House

Materials

  • 2 Extra large boxes / 2 medium / 2 small
  • Exacto Knife
  • Duct Tape
  • Clear Tape
  • Red / White Acrylic Paint
  • Paintbrush

STEP 1 : B O X E S

The first thing you want to do is find two large boxes, about the size of a mini fridge or an ottoman, for your base. You can use smaller boxes and attach them together, but in my opinion, if a toddler is running through it, you need some sort of stability! THINK B I G. I taped them together at the top to get ready for the next step! TIP : I got my boxes from Starbucks, you could also go to furniture stores, that way you know the boxes are clean and dry!

You may also like LEGO of your DIY fears

Step 2 : T R A C E  I T  O U T

The second step is to trace out how you want your house to look. Pinterest, google, search out different ideas for what you want to create. I chose to do two windows, different shapes, a chimney and a door. TIP: When I was sketching out the shapes for the roof and window, I did it from the opposite side that would show on the outside, so it didn’t matter how many times I re-drew. TIP #2 : Find an item in your house to trace some of the more finer pieces. i.e. large whicker basket for the roof window.

Step 3 : M A K E  T H E  C U T

After you have all of your pieces ready and sketched, it’s time to cut them out. I found that it was really hard to cut across and so simple to cut top to bottom because of the grooves in the board itself. But at the end of the day, the only one judging will be your child, and there will only be screams of joy! Remember to make the chimney and the mailbox. TIP : I cut all of the pieces out and cut the window slots afterwards, it was too awkward to try and cut little squares out of a large piece of board!

CHIMNEY : When you are making the chimney, it’s tricky to get the right angle so I suggest cutting it out how you think but make it EXTRA LONG so then when you need to adjust and trim, you have space to.

You may also like : Canadiana Styled Shoot

SCALLOPED EDGING : I made this separately after I had completed the base of the house, I had some extra pieces. It was really on a whim, just remember, bigger is better, more playful and play-like!

Step 4 : R E I N F O R C E

You’ve cut all the edges and pieces, now to reinforce any extra pieces that may need to stay folded or bent a certain way. I used TONS of duct tape here and clear tape for the outside. TIP : I used other pieces of cardboard to make those long straight lines to make sure they would be equal

Step 5 : P U T  I T  T O G E T H E R

When I was putting it all together, I actually had to reinforce a couple pieces with an extra piece of cardboard on the inside of the roof. I used only duct tape on the inside for extra support and clear on the outside. TIP : Save the roof until last, you will want to paint it first and separately. Already being attached to the house is too awkward!

Step 6 : P A I N T

Paint the roof first, you can do lines, scallops or even bricks if you like! This is also the time that I painted the chimney and entire scalloped trim so that it would be dry by the time I was done the house. Paint the edges of the home, doorway, window frame and any other additions on the house. When I painted the chimney, I painted all the edges and then let it dry and sized after. Don’t forget about your little mailbox!

Step 7 : E N J O Y

Fill your gingerbread house with teddy’s, plush blankets and everything cozy! One thing that really brought this Gingerbread House home (even though I don’t think I’ve ever added one on a cookie house) was this amazing fire play set from Nixilauroo. (The marshmallow has a MAGNET in it to attach to the stick!! – MIND-BLOWN) Head on over to their site and check out the HUGE variety of play sets they have, colours and even prints! And if you’re still perusing through after the fire sets, search for their brand new teddy bear hoodie. You won’t be able to resist! I know I couldn’t!

I am embarrassed to admit this, but I am quite the snob when it comes to apple and orange juices. I love the raw, pulpy, hand squeezed taste. My absolute favourites are ‘Simply Brand – Apple Juice’ and ‘Tropicana , Some pulp, Orange Juice” LOL! If you love cider as much as I do well then this will be a treat! Here is the full recipe to this delicious Apple Cider, Enjoy!

Ingredients:

Serves 10-12

• 1 orange

• 1 lemon

• 10 apples (a mixture is good — we used Jazz apples and Granny Smiths)

• 1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon

•  1 small piece ginger, peeled and sliced

• 1 teaspoon all spice

• 12 cloves

• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

•  3/4 cup brown sugar

Instructions:

1. Peel the zest off the orange and lemon, being careful not to peel off the white pith (as this is very bitter). Cut all of the white pith off and discard, then cut the orange and lemon into slices (don’t worry about the seeds — they’ll be sieved out later).

2. Cut the apples into quarters.

3. Place the orange and lemon slices and peels into the slow-cooker pot along with the apples, cinnamon, ginger, all spice, cloves, vanilla extract and sugar. Pour in enough cold water to cover everything.

4. Turn the slow cooker to high, place the lid on and cook for three hours.

5. After three hours, use a potato masher to mash the fruit into the water, then place the lid back on and cook for a further 30-60 minutes.

6. Strain the liquid through a sieve into a large jug and serve immediately.

7. Alternatively you can cool, cover and refrigerate until needed. Simply reheat in a pan when ready to serve.

Have a recipe you’d like to share? or maybe your very own spin on Apple Cider? I would love to hear about it and add to my recipe book!

I know, I know, kind of late on getting the ball rolling this fall. Teething, working and a busy-body toddler got first in line for the last couple months! Finally here we are, Apple season is just at the end, but hopefully you will still be able to enjoy some of these festive fall treats and recipes when the colder days roll in!

Apples are one of my favourite fruit, and I know for a fact that it is my husbands favourite fruit, so with that being said, fall always fills our house with these wonderful multi-used fruits! I love the sweeter apples, like Granny Smith, yum! My husband loves the Honey Crisp apples, which are also delicious I must admit, and Ez, well she just loves to have a whole apple in her hand to munch and crunch!

As I started to embark on which pastries and activities I would be putting together for our family this fall, I thought I’d share the love and let you all in on our secret home recipes for a few of our favourites! Enjoy!

APPLE PICKING – TAVES FAMILY FARM

Now to start off apple season, you’ve got to go collect them! This year is super exciting for us because our little miss is walking and almost running, I’ve been waiting for a few months now to go apple picking with her. Just like her dad, she LOVES apples, so going to Taves Family Farm, she was on cloud 9 and could barely contain herself.

She was running up and down the rows of ‘Papple’ trees, picking up all the (gross) apples and trying to take a bite. We had her up on our shoulders, picking the ones at the tippy top and walking alongside the trees, reaching some of her very own. (and then when she would go to pull them off, she would yell at us, “TUCK mama, papple TUCK!”)

APPLE PIE – Homemade is the Best-made

Lets just start this portion of this entry by saying, I am very blessed to have a husband who supports, and eats, everything I do and bake. Lol

The first thing you’ll want to do is make a fresh batch (or two if you’d like to criss cross the top) of some homemade pie crust! Check out the full recipe for 1-2-3-ROLL! Your easiest pie crust yet! for my favourite starter.

The classic homemade Apple Pie. Today I am going to share with you how to make this Holiday Staple. To start, I would suggest definitely picking up some hard, tart apples, Granny Smith or maybe Honey Crisp are great! The best part about this recipe is that there are only 7 steps and you will only need TEN ingredients, and most of these are already sitting on your shelves!

Head on over to [1-2-3-ROLL, your easiest pie crust yet] to find step by step instructions and everything you will need to make this homemade classic!

I wish, I wish, I wish I had a food processor. you’ll see why when you look into the pie crust making above lol! But low and behold I had my trusty pastry blender to bring it all home at the end of the day. One thing to look out for when you are choosing your apples is how juicy they are. Unfortunately when I was making my pie, I overlooked this part and my pie ended up coming out a little more juicy this time. Nothing that a few extra minutes in the over couldn’t help though!

Head on over to Homemade Apple Pie FULL RECIPE to find out what you’ll need to bake your very own Apple Pie. (Make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom for an extra little treat!)

Apple Chips

When I was growing up, my parents had an awesome food dehydrator (now being an adult and mother myself, I am extremely envious of this and wish I had one!). When I was thinking of making my own apple chips for my daughter, I was kind of bummed because I didn’t think I would be able to make them without a machine. I then stumbled across a couple recipes that only called for a pan, knife, apples and 200 degrees for 3 hours.

HELLO simple and HELLO delicious! I was quite hesitant and unsure that these little slices would turn out, but low and behold, 3 hours passed and there they were, delicious, crispy and full of crunch!

I am still in awe of how easy and delicious these were! Highly recommend these delicious chips. The only part that was a bit daunting was slicing the apples, but if you’ve got a super sharp knife, or better yet, a mandolin then you’ll be fine!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 3 apples (larger size and either granny smith or honey crisp)
  • sharp knife
  • 2 baking sheets
  • parchment paper

IMG_7080

Start by slicing your apples into very thin slices and placing on the baking sheet. The parchment paper will make it easier to flip your apples when you are halfway through baking. I overlapped my apples and it turned out okay, so don’t be afraid to get more on your baking sheet.

Preheat your oven to 200 degrees. When the oven is ready, place your baking sheet in for 1 hour, remove and flip apples to other side and cook again for 1-1.5 hours. I found that mine were still a bit ‘soggy’ when I took them out after 2 hours so I kept them in and checked every 15 minutes to make sure they weren’t burning. 3 hours was perfect for my oven!

ENJOY!

During this whole process there was a few times that I had to put Ez in her high chair and try and make do with what we had around the house, some of this included using the wooden spoons I was baking with to whack her tray with, paw patrol, eating an entire apple and the saviour of them all, a wagon wheel. This kid will pick off every last bit of the CHOCOLATE and then eat the marsh mellow! Who’s kid is this?!?!

After the first few items on this list, not that this is some grand realization, but I can confirm that apples are amazing. You can pick them, bake them, juice them, jar them, dry them and the list goes on.

Tried any of these recipes out? I would LOVE to see how you did and your spin on these Holiday Classics! Please tag me on your instagram @stumbling grace, Stumbling Grace Blog on facebook or sending me a message on here! Good luck and have fun ❤
